Katkuoy Wins Title

Katkuoy takes down @The101Casino North Bay Poker Open title .. but which one?

Tona and Tony were heads-up for the title, the 101 Casino bracelet, the cover of next month's Ante Up Magazine and an entry into the 2015 Ante Up World Championships at Thunder Valley Casino in August.

In a wild and fun heads-up match featuring huge bets, all-in bluffs and more, Tona ends up victorious over his brother, earning the title.

The brothers, though, are going to share the cover photo!

Tona Katkuoy

Sibling Rivalry For The TItle

Tona and Tony Kaykuoy are battling it out, brother-a-brother, for the @The101Casino North Bay Poker Open @AnteUpMagazine Main Event title.

It doesn't get much better than this

Tony
Tona

Aces Cracked

Aaron Reiff just ran his Aces into the queens of Tony Katkuoy on a Qxx flop for a nearly 1 million chip pot, knocking Reiff down to about 5bb, leaving us very close to a sibling rivalry heads up match between the Katkuoy's.

Aaron doubles through Tony on the very next hand, however, and it back up to 150,000.

Tona Katkuoy eliminates Aaron on the very next hand, Aaron taking 3rd place.

3-Handed Chipcounts

Tona Katkuoy, with 1 million in chips, almost has his brother Tony and Aaron Reiff covered as we are 3-handed for the North Bay Poker open title.

Tona has 1 million, Aaron 600,000 and Tony has 500,000

Joe Mussat - 4th Place

Joe Mussat runs his two pair from the big blind in to the rivered trip queens of overwhelming chipleader Tona Katkuoy and is eliminated in 4th place, earning $4,725.

Jason Patterson - 5th Place

James Patterson is all in with A3 against the AK of Aaron Reiff. An Axx board gives Patterson only 3 outs or running straight cards.
No 3 appears, no wheel draw is filled, and Patterson is eliminated in 5th place, earning $3,544.

Level Up

The final five players are about to move to Level 21, at blinds of 10,000/20,000 with 3000 antes in @The101Casino Main Event.

There are about 2.1 million chips in play, so what you see below are VERY estimated chipcounts in between hands.

Tona Katkuoy -- 810,000
Tony Katkuoy -- 395,000
Aaron Reiff -- 390,000
James Patterson -- 250,000
Joe Mussat -- 210,000

Dennis Markusen - 6th Place

We arrived as the hand ended, but Dennis Markusen has been eliminated in 6th place, earning $2,599. A few hands earlier he took a big hit to his stack when Jason Patterson rivered a bigger two pair.

Double Double for Patterson

Not once, but twice ... Jason Patterson is a big stack once again.

First he gets in all in against Joe Mussat, AT v QJ and the board goes ATQJ, two pair for both but short-stacked Patterson gets the better two pair.

Now, he moves all in on a K7x board holding KT, only to have Dennis Markusen call with K7. There is a T on the river, however, and Patterson has two doubles in one orbit.

"I can't believe I got there," he says.

Tahoe Andrew - 7th Place

He survived all day as the short stack, but we eventually lost Howard 'Tahoe' Andrew in 7th place.

From the small blind, Tahoe put his 60k stack all in and Joe Mussat called from the big blind, turning over A8, while Tahoe showed K5.

The flop of 445 put Tahoe in teh lead, the J on the turn changed nothing but Barry Greensetein popped up again, Ace On The River, and Tahoe was eliminated in 7th palce, earning $1,772.

We'll see Tahoe in a few weeks at the World Series of Poker, where he'll be playing for the 43rd consecutive year.

Quads and Nobody Wins

How can you gets quads, be all in and not win the pot, here's how?

Allan Kwong is all in with QT, called - and covered - by Dennis Markusen with 99.

Markusen figures he is in a great spot when the flop comes 555, giving him a full house.

Kwong takes the lead, however, when thr case 5 comes, giving both quads and Kwong's Q playing.

Barry Greenstein, Ace On The River, though, makes it a chop.

Kwong was eliminated on the very next hand.

Tahoe Knows Best

In the big blind, and the shortstack, Howard 'Tahoe' Andrew knew he was in a tough spot when bigstack Tona Katkuoy raised 3.5x from late position.

Tahoe - he of back-to-back WSOP bracelets back in 1976 - saw the small blind take a while to debate the 35,000 raise from Katkuoy before folding, then looked down at his own hand and needed some time to debate what to do.

"Tahoe, you push and I call," said Katkuoy, who has more than 700,000 in chips, at least 400k more than 2nd place at this point 7-handed.

"How tight do you think I am?" Tahoe said with a sly grin, and he flashed AQ.

"How can you fold that there?" a semi-exasperated Katkuoy says as he flips up AK.

Players chuckled and one in the audience said "That's what 60 years of experience gets you." Yep, that was our own Jay 'Lucky' Sheets on the rail talkin' 'bout Tahoe.

On break, Tahoe came over and said there were two reasons he laid that down preflop.

One, he said the 3.5x raise from Katkuoy caught his attention, saying he knows Tona is a good player and felt that tipped him off there was a big hand brewing.

Two, the small blind tank-folding was an indication another Big Ace had been folded.

"I knew I was in a bad place there, some of the young kids would have snap-called there, being the shortstack, but I knew better."

Tahoe Know Best, folks, don't ever forget that.

Howard 'Tahoe' Andrew

Jason Patterson 117,000
Tahoe Andrew 68,000

Allan Kwong - 8th Place

Allan Kwong is all in preflop and Aaron Reiff makes the call.
Kwong tables AJ and is behind the AQhh of Reiff.
Kwong picks up a backdoor flush draw on the flop, but does not get there and he is eliminated in 8th place, earning $1,417.
Reiff moves to about 315,000

Jacks Are Good?

Aaron Reiff and Tony Katkuoy go to the flop and see the board go 3-5-Q.

Aaron moves all-in for his last 111,000, sending Tony into the tank for about 90 seconds. He reluctantly folds and Joe asks if Tony wants to see his pair.

Tony says yes and Aaron obliges, turning over JJ.

See, folks, Jacks CAN hold up.

AA v KK Oh My

Jason Patterson makes the call of the all in by Joe Mussat and he flips over KK

Mussat, however, has AA

The board runs out 9-3-8-7-T and Mussat - who started the day with 68,000 chips - gets a full double up to about 235,000. Patterson slips back down to about 145,000.

On The Bag-n-Tag Bubble via Big Hand

Mike Harvey is back all- in again @The101Casino $40k GTD, saying he wants to double up or go home, but the situation is a bit different than last time.

Harvey leads out for 6,000, only to have another player announce all-in. Harvey hesitates, then moves in 75,000-ish stack in, turning over AJ and seeing he is behind QQ.

"Well, I only need one Ace this time," he says, and sure enough, there is an Ace in the window.

Harvey may have top pair, but he is almost drawing dead, because the full flop is AQQ, quads for his opponent.

Harvey has to hit running Aces to survive being knocked down to fewer than 4 bb. He does not get the miracle runout, and on the next hand he goes all in blind and is eliminated in 9th.

We are now on the bag-n-tag bubble for Day 1B

Harvey Shoves Bind and Gets There

Mike Harvey says he does not want to come back shortstacked for Day 2, so he would rather bust in 9th than bag chips as one of 7 but he is low on chips.

He shoves blind and gets one caller who turns over QQ. Harvey admits he did not look and says "Let's slow roll this to see what I have."

His first card is Ad, then a 5d, and he flops a 5.

The A on the turn with a river blank gives Harvey the double-up, but he admits out loud he'll probably shove blind once again because he still is pretty short on chips with about 75,000 chips.

The very next hand there is an all-in and a call, but not involving Harvey. The short stack turns over 66, only to see he ran into AA. A river 6 means a double from the short stack to about 44,000 and we are still 9-handed.

51 for Day 1B

Registration for the first of two flights today is closed, showing an additional 51 entries @The101Casino for $40,000 guaranteed #NBPO Main Event.
